Saturday Things
So our good friend, Karl, is here, "de-ice-damming" our roof. He just showed me the inside of our roof and how he is fixing it. It is so so cool. But it is FREEZING outside. Did I mention he is awesome? He is. He and his awesome fiancee, Britney, are getting married in May and we are so happy for them!
David just left to go to the doctor. His throat swelled up last night and it seems as though he's never really recovered from whatever we got before/after the wedding. He's also off for a haircut. Which leaves me to clean and unpack our piles and boxes from the past two weeks, and I am a very happy girl. I LOVE organizing and I have the house all to myself to do it in my very own OCD way!! I laughed the other day when David was looking for his spackle thing and I knew right where it was. I might not have known what it's called but I sure know where I organized it! LOL. David turned on Christmas music for me before he left and I'm good to go!
But before I'm in all my glory organizing our home, I promised a horse story. It is more a story of public washing facilities, but it does, indeed, involve a horse.
This past Monday, David packed up the laundry for me in the morning and I dutifully headed to the laundromat that night after an appointment. Anticipating some issues, I purposefully chose a laundromat in a very nice town, hoping that would make a difference in the cleanliness factor. Notsomuch. From the beginning, it was clear I was different from the other users. I carefully inspected every machine to find the one with the least amount of mold. I loaded clothes into those washers, working quickly to beat the others in line, only to decide that I found a better, cleaner washer just a few washers down. So, I'd move the clothes, carefully avoiding the machines that smelled like urine. Other people came in and simply shoved clothes into a machine. I marvelled at their ability to be so flexible! As my clothes finished washing, I patrolled the washers to make sure I could time the release of my clothes with an open dryer. The washers hit "zero" to signal the end of the wash cycle, and I performed acrobatics with my arms as to not let my newly washed clothes touch the inside/outside of the machines or the floors. Eww. I loaded the clothes into dryers and as I fed the dryers quarter by quarter (I did not want to overpay) I got the WORST itching sensation. My eyes itched, my throat itched, my HAIR itched. I was so itchy and miserable, but of course, I thought it was from the mold of the washers so I didn't obsess much. However, as I pulled my dry, clean victories from the dryer and folded them into baskets, the man with the dryer next to me opened HIS dryer, looked at me with a smile and said,
"Washin' my horse blanket. That horse sure does like to roll around in the mud."
HORSE BLANKET!!??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!???
As the clothes I had taken SO much care of this entire experience were getting horsie all over them, I pathetically prayed, "Please please please quit shaking that horse blanket and put it back in the dryer." He opened his dryer and shook that horse blanket three more times. Such defeat.
All I could do was smile, move my freshly folded clothes farther away from the horse blanket and time my trips to my dryer when his dryer was closed and controlling the horse. Oh. My. Goodness. At least his announcement explained the smell of urine in the washer and my uncontrollable itching, so those mysteries were solved.
I learned some valuable lessons that fateful night:
1. Always let your husband buy you a washer and dryer when he offers.
2. Laundromats are wonderful but most people use them for their dirtiest jobs.
3. Horses are itchy.
Yesterday we went to Uncle Steve and Aunt Carol's for dinner. They were gracious enough to also let us bring our laundry. Bless them.
Have a GREAT Saturday!

You Know You Need to Grocery Shop When...
... you come down to kitchen in the morning and you witness your otherwise-very-health-conscious husband eating a bag of your leftover lunch chips for breakfast.
I think I need to get the man some food.

Water, Horses and Christmas
I invite you to enter the randomness of my brain at this late hour. I'm sorry it's so scattered, but I just had to say hi and I know Lauren needs new material to read.
1. Water: One of the funniest and loveliest things I have learned about my husband after 20-some days of marriage is that he puts water in everything. He is often very thirsty and it is necessary to have a supply of drinking water on-hand at all times. That means any container-like things (e.g., old cups, new cups, OJ containers, bottles) that are close by and clean get used for water-storing purposes. I think it is terribly funny and completely endearing. Plus, I'm happy because there's always something for me to drink! He, on the other hand, has learned that I MUST be reminded at all times that random cups and containers can be/are being used for drinking purposes. I have a view that empty containers are for trash and other yucky things. You can see the problems that might arise...
2. Horses: Ah, this rite of passage will have to wait for another day. I must use all my literary skills to produce an excellent narrative of this event. Yes, it has to do with horses, but that is not the main idea (as I tell my students).
3. Christmas: David and I decided to adopt a family instead of getting gifts for each other this year. Bless my husband's heart!!! He let me "up" our price range today, which made me a glowing girl! I just am in love with this family I've never met and I had the best time shopping for them with my increased budget. Six hours later, I think there will be some happy kids on Christmas morning and I am so glad we could take the burden off of their single mother. Please pray for them: two boys (10 and 5) and one girl (1). Pray that they have the best Christmas ever, and pray that it is because they know the true meaning of the holiday.
I have all their presents lined up and in piles per child and I'm so excited for David to see them! Our plan was to go shopping together, but sadly, David couldn't come with me as he was (and still is) at work. He has a big review that needs to be in by Midnight. Pray for him too! I'm headed to bed as soon as this posts and have decided that a dog is a good idea. Better protection on nights by myself. Although I'm not sure how much protection a shih-poo would be... :)
xoxo

'Tis the Season!
Time for some chatter! I've missed blogging!
First, today marks 18 days of marriage. I know it probably seems so minuscule compared to how long so many other people have been married, but I think we've grown as much in 18 days as we have in the whole year (plus a bit) we've known each other. It really is true that marriage is wonderful, but it's equally as true that it refines person. I think there were a few days we comically both wondered who invaded the person we married, but after a few tears and lots of laughter, all is well in Turnerville. We have settled in and are loving and embracing all the wonderful little things. Two stubborn people under one roof is a bit crazy at times, but as Ruth Bell Graham said, "Marriage is the union of two great forgivers." Amen, Ruth. We intend to prove that true!
So yesterday after a display of sleep-deprived attitude that I'm not especially proud of, I decided to be a emotionally normal wife and I bought some items to make our house festive for Christmas! For those of you who don't know, we're in home dem-- well, I've called it demolition before, but it's actually one step more advanced. We're living out of 2.75 rooms that are makeshift for now, but they are OURS and we have really grown to love this time together in our little space. Our beautiful fridge was delivered this week and yesterday, I bought a little tree for our room and some garland for the banister and a shovel for David and I THEN dug out the amazing Christmas items people got us for our wedding (absolutely everything is still in boxes still to avoid getting ruined in the house-fixing process). Voila! Our little 2.75 room space became a Christmas home, fully complete with our "Joy" Nativity scene from Karin. I'll have to post some pics if I can figure it out. By the way, I got my 3 ft. tree for $20 at BBB and I just giggle and smile every time I see it. I think it might be one of my favorite purchases ever. It is the most beautiful tree I have ever had. I will never, ever get rid of it. It marks our first Christmas with so little and yet SO much more than we deserve.
Yesterday was also a SNOW DAY! YAY! I prayed so so SO hard for it and I needed it desperately. I was teasing David that having a day off made me feel human again. On top of my Christmassing our home, I visited the DMV and officially became Mrs. Kelli Turner and my car officially became CT registered. It was so surreal sitting in the DMV. I was probably the only happy person there. I just kept thinking how much has happened in this last month and how I was living in CT with a HUSBAND and a HOUSE and I just kept smiling. I think that was the moment it felt real. There's just something about changing your name on your license and changing your car over to a new state. It makes it so very permanent.
Oh there's just so much to say! Those of you who know and appreciate my "Kelli-ness" know that I like to self-diagnose and do all things medical that licensed people should probably do instead. I know, I know. I get it from my mom and grandma. ANYWAY, I've discovered being married adds a whole new level to the insanity! Now when I feel nauseous for more than a day or I smell Skittles from across the movie theatre, I instantly wonder if I'm pregnant! Haha! We've had ourselves a good laugh over this and it's become quite the joke. Joey, I know you will have a field day with this new level of hypochondria. What can I say? You just have to love me for it.
I was also thinking today (somewhat randomly but somewhat not) that as you get older, the exciting life events seem to get further and further apart. Then I scolded myself for how silly of thinking that is! God has given us LIFE ABUNDANTLY, and I for one, am determined to celebrate and be joyous over every single small and large moment of life! I'll be the 89-year-old playing with play-doh in my paper party hat at 5-year-old birthday celebrations and I'll be loving it. I'll leave you with this: Don't live life for the big moments. Live big for all the moments in life. Not a bad way to spend your days, if I do say so myself.

Hi!
So other than being totally busy after returning from our honeymoon, we have also been SUPER sick, which means lots of medicine and lots of sleep. I think we're both starting to feel human again, thanks to the miracles of modern medicine and the miracles of God-given rest... which means a blog post for me!
The wedding was just PERFECT. It couldn't have gone any better if it was a movie, and we were so blessed by everyone who was there. Our only regret was that the day wasn't long enough to sit and have a good amount of time with each person, but I guess that's how they say weddings go! I'll have more pics soon, I hope! Thank you to EVERYONE who made it so incredible. I think we're going to be featured on the Horizons Center website and brochures, so we'll keep you posted on that!
On to our honeymoon...Poor David was so so sick and I was experiencing some post-wedding emotions (it's all over so fast!), but we had a wonderful time! Our wedding was Sunday, we flew home Monday, I worked Tuesday and Wednesday and after work on Wednesday, we went for a night to the Batcheller Mansion Inn in Saratoga Springs, NY, which was incredible. On Thursday (Thanksgiving Day), we headed further north to The Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, NY. SIMPLY FABULOUS. The Whiteface spoiled us completely! It is a beautiful lodge with everything you can think of... bowling alley, movie theatre, four-star service, ice skating, hiking, spa, smores, nightly activities... totally amazing.
Upon arrival, we checked in, our car was whisked away and we were given a private tour! They delivered our Thanksgiving meal (with complimentary champagne) and then we went exploring around the facilities (think nestled in the Adirondack Mountains...so so cool). Friday was a lazy day with a couple's massage which was AWESOME (David was so cute in his little eye mask). When we returned to our room, it was SNOWING! Every tree was lit with Christmas lights, there were fireplaces galore! Oh my! Friday and Saturday we bummed around Lake Placid, which was SO fun, and we watched a local skating show and tried out skating for ourselves! Sunday was such a sad day... I cried on the way home because I didn't want it to be over. A few key points: we had some AMAZING food in town and David fell in love with the spa. We visited the spa every day, and I, for one, am sooooo happy to have a husband who loves a little pampering! Life is good :)
We are back in full swing of life, and though I LOVE the kids and people I work with, upon returning to CT, I have begged David every day to stay home. Hahaha. I think I just want to be a wife and finish our house and unpack our stuff and just take care of our live and process the wedding. BUT, the time will be made for that, I am sure.
In other news, I can hardly believe Christmas is around the corner. I simply adore Christmas and all that is Christmassy. I am going to force myself to breathe so I can actually appreciate this first Christmas with a HUSBAND! It's been far more hectic than I can explain but what a gift...and I intend to cherish every moment. We are going to Michigan this year, as it's my sister and brother's year for "rotation" and I can't wait to be home without having to rush our trip. David is awesome and is taking extra time off so we can enjoy all of it. Maybe I'll get him an adorable red Christmas sweater for all the festivities. He's sporting a goatee these days and I think it's a simply fabulous idea to pair that with a Christmas sweater.

Officially hitched
I am taking a quick break during my lunch hour to bring you news you may already know...
WE'RE MARRIED!!!
The weekend was amazing... hair, dress fitting, nail appointment, surprise picnic from mom, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, baptism, bonfire, cake, flowers, hair, music, ceremony, reception... ahhh, it was PERFECT! Everyone worked their tails off to make it the most amazing weekend. We'll post more details and fun stuff later, but for now it's back to work!
We arrived home safely last night (Monday) and I walked into a bedroom of rose petals! What a guy I have :) I arrived at work safely today and could probably fall asleep at my desk! Haha. But it's been a great day overall!
Saying "husband" is such an adjustment! I keep starting to say "fiance"! And I got to sign "Turner" for the first time today!!! Oh, the fun changes...
